The Sheffield Social Forum had it's launch on the 27th March 2004; 10.30am - 5pm at the Institute for the Blind on Mappin Street

The (unfinished...) Launch report is here. People present on the day are invited to contribute to this, to let everyone know what went on in the workshops they couldn't get to or the event as a whole.

Programme:

Plenary speaker, Hilary Wainwright, will give feedback from the recent World Social Forum held in Mumbai (India) and from the process to create the next European Social Forum in London.

A number of workshops have been proposed, to be facillitated by local organisations, and divided into two categories:

  1. Skill-sharing, such as
  • Publicity and press
  • Fundraising
  • Decision making and group work
  1. Issue based, such as
  • Proposals for yet more waste mismanagement, this time in the form of a new tip in Parkwood.
  • Proposals for yet more luxury accomodation, this time in the grounds of the General Cemetery, Sharrow.

There is also a indymedia lab covering free software, wirlessnetworking and hacktivism type stuff.

The final session aims to bring together people's experiences of the day, with suggestions for forthcoming campaigns, lessons for future SSF events, and feedback from workshops.

questions: Will the final session be part of the plenary or will it still be separate workshops? If so how will we be able to decide what we have the final session workshops on?

The proposed structure of the day can be found here.

(Please note: Programme details will be updated regularly as arrangements are finalised.)
