Stoves
Some notes on wood burning stoves suitable for smoke control areas, for reasons for wood burning as opposed to fossil fuels see CAT's The Wood Fuelled Home.
Smoke Control Areas
You can find if you are in a smoke control area via the uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk site however there is no detail on Sheffield there and the Councils web site doesn't have any information either -- some/most? of Sheffield is a smoke control area but it's not clear what parts are not, the rural ones probably.
Approved Appliances
The uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk site also has a list of exempt appliances and details of the smaller wood burning stoves exempt in England follow.
The Dovre 500 is the cheapest and the Dunsley_Yorkshire_Stove is the only one that can have a back boiler and it is also the only one made locally, however it doesn't look as nice as the Morsø 3440. The Dovre and Morsø ones are the only ones totally made of cast iron -- the others have cast iron doors and steel bodies.
Clearview
Their site is at clearviewstoves.com and they have several models which have been exempted, the smaller ones being:
According to stovesonline.co.uk you "have to have the Smoke Control System factory fitted which costs an extra £200-225 and stops you closing the stove right down".
