Networking
Green Drinks
You are invited to the first meeting of Sheffield Green Drinks which will be held on Tuesday 14 September at the Showroom Café Bar from 6.30pm onwards.
Green Drinks is an opportunity for people working or interested in the environment, sustainability and regeneration to get together and have a drink in an informal atmosphere. It is designed to attract a great mix of people form all sectors and is a good way to make new contacts. Green Drinks is designed to be a self sustaining network as members are encouraged to invite new contacts to the events.
Sheffield Green Drinks will be held on a monthly basis and more information about future dates and the venue can be found by visiting the Sheffield Green Drinks Website here.

Friends of Lynwood Gardens
Lynwood gardens is a 6000m2 area of mature woodland and open glades situated in Broomhall near the heart of Sheffield City centre, UK. The site is to the South of Aunt Sally’s pub, which was the former home of the Newton family (Sheffield Master Cutlers 1844). The site dates back to 1832 and has been left untouched for over 150 years; map evidence suggests that it may be the only piece of "virgin" land left in western sheffield. It is therefore a valuable piece of Sheffield’s steel making heritage, which should be protected.
The Site is currently owned by the Sheffield City Council education dept and has been under pressure from developers for many years. Areas of the site have already been built on and there have been plans to sell off more. Formed in 2003, Friends of Lynwood Gardens are a group of concerned Broomhall residents seeking to form a charity and take over ownership of the land to protect Lynwood and the surrounding area from further development.

Bernard Road Incinerator
There was an active campaign against plans by the council to let waste mismanagement company Onyx extend the polluting incinerator in Sheffield's city centre in order to burn yet more waste that could be reused or recycled. An excellent summary of the facts of incineration is available on indymedia here
The coucil provides a handy summary of some of the arguments against the scheme here.
The incinerator had previously been the target of a Greenpeace campaign as it was massively in breach of environmental regulations governing air pollution emissions. Here are some reports of the Greenpeace action: one, two.
RABID is Residents against Bernard Road Incinerator Damage. They have a website here
A member of SSF is helping IMPACT to collate info on incineration, so that we can continue to campaign against it. Here's the WIKI page where info is being put:
