CommunityLibrary

http://library.burngreave.net or http://sheffield.communitybooks.org

This whole distributed library project depends on people _participating_ ! So please register at one of the sites share!

The software is GPL and could be installed easily anywhere. The http://library.burngreave.net is good for burngreave :-) as burngreave has a (somewhat) developed IT strategy ( see http://www.burngreave.net/reports/ ) and library.burngreave.net fits in with that ( together with http://learning.burngreave.net/ and http://bcan.burngreave.net/ )

There is a global movement of "distributed library projects" see ther wiki page

They also offer the "yourcity.communitybooks.org" URI - sheffield.community books.org has been requested.

After a discussion with one of the techies who implemented the SSF wiki the following was suggested.

http://sheffield.communitybooks.org could be used for promotional material outside of Burngreave. Sections of Sheffield that also have an IT strategy and resource (thinking of manor and mediac for example) could simply alias library.burngreave.net, as, for example communitylibrary.mediacuk.co.uk. Areas that don't simply use the sheffield.communitybooks.org URI

Also another reason for keeping a burngreave element is being able to attract funding ( though any 1/2 way organised body should be ok here). I've recently been made aware of http://www.aol.co.uk/about/community/innovation/ which have up to £2000 grants available. That could fund some promotional activity around sheffield.communitybooks.org
