Burngreave & Fir Vale Residents' and Businesses Charter

This is a copy of the Charter that was part of the report presented to Sheffield Council Cabinet in May. The Charter is in Appendix 7; the full report can be downloaded from this link.

We are committed to involving the Community in the planning of the new areas. We will:

  • Include community facilities
  • Design safe neighbourhoods in our proposals
  • Involve residents of Fir Vale in planning and designing new buildings
  • Produce regular information to all residents and stakeholders.

To give confidence to residents and business we will:

  • Ensure nobody is worse off as a result of the change
  • Ensure demolition happens only where there is community support for the redevelopment proposal
  • Establish project groups to oversee the regeneration of the area
  • Ensure any offers to buy property are made at a fair market value verified by an independent valuer
  • Develop a commercial and retail plan to create certainty for local businesses

To help you to make the best choice for yourself we will:

  • Visit everyone in their own home to give advice and support to find the best housing options for you
  • Ensure local people who want to can stay in the area
  • Ask where you want to live and what type of home you want and try to match these with the homes available
  • Make sure that there is a choice of new homes to suit your needs, of different types or sizes, available to rent or buy
  • Provide a flexible range of financial options to help those wishing to buy new homes
  • Give priority to existing residents and businesses affected by demolition and who wish to purchase new properties
  • Give a choice of areas for residents to move to for those who wish to move away
  • Offer you a property for rent from the Council if you wish

To maintain the area throughout the works we will:

  • Keep the area clean and tidy
  • Work with SY Police, Fir Vale Forum, Burngreave Community Action Forum and Burngreave New Deal for Communities to keep the area safe throughout the process
