About Me
I am a recent graduate of the University of Leeds, so that's where I've been for the last few years, but really my home town is Sheffield. I have a degree in 'The History and Philosophy of Science,' not a greatly practical sounding degree on the face of it I know but I am hoping to get into the field of Science communication. What's that? Well it's all about making really complicated sounding scientific issues to seem accessible, lively, and to increase public understanding of these issues. That's a very important point; it's about engagement and dialogue rather than a passing of fact from authority to layperson
That's where this project comes in really; it's an attempt of mine to communicate science in a way that appreciates the understandings, opinions, and beliefs that members of the public already hold. It's about including members of the community and encouraging them to tell their stories about how science has affected them. These stories are all important. They are, in their own way, just as important as the stories that are being made in the most pretigious and respected research establishments.
I am a seeker of the deep underpinning interconnections that lie beneth the fabric of the world. I am interested in how things are organized. I am interested in the way that an embryonic cell can differentiate itself finally into a fully formed organism. I am interested how cities can organize themselves into the varied and complex forms in which we see them today. I am interested in how society is organized. That is why this project is on the Sheffield Forum, and why I would like anybody who would like to help me to get in touch. We can make this project happen together.
